At the end of your internship

Performance Appraisal

When you finish your internship, you will be assesses a "Pass/Fail" grade by the Faculty, once it has been determined that you have completed all of the requirements for the program.

For the Co-op Office, this means a positive Performance Appraisal (AP) from your supervisor

Work term record

You will need to ensure your work term record is complete - this includes the start and end dates, so that the Co-op Office can check that the length of your internship meets the required criteria (13 weeks minimum).

Program completion letter for Faculty of Graduate Studies

Once your final grade is submitted in DalOnline, you can contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies. They require a form indicating you have completed all the requirements for your program. You can send or drop off this form any time, but they will not process it until your grade has been submitted. After processing, they can provide you with a confirmation letter - please note it takes 5 business days to process the letter. You can access the form on the .

Taking a class during your internship  

If you are interested in taking a class during the internship, please note the following:

  1. Such requests will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
  2. The class must not be a core class.
  3. You must first submit a request to the Master of Applied Computer Science committee.
  4. Such requests are contingent on written approval by the internship employer.

Leaving an internship before completion

If you choose to leave an internship before it is completed, it will be treated as a Fail unless the withdrawal is before the Registrar’s .

Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis if the employer is unable to provide you with a suitable internship environment. If this is the case, you will be allowed to withdraw from the internship without penalty. You will receive an "In Progress" grade and will be expected to complete a new internship later.
