Exams

Exams test your knowledge, serving as the final evaluation of your performance in a course.

Exam formats

Exams may be in-person or online.Ìý

There are two types of online exams:

In synchronous exams, all students write the final exam at the same time and within a fixed window of time.Ìý

  • Example: All students would write a 2-hour exam on April 10 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time.

The exam will be a fixed duration, but students can choose when to start writing it over a specified period of time.Ìý

  • Example: A 2-hour exam might be available from 8:30 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time on April 10 until 8:30 a.m. Atlantic Standard Time on April 11. You will decide when to write the exam during that period.

External exams

External Exam invigilation is available on Thursdays on both our Halifax and Truro Campuses.ÌýYou must coordinate the exam and its delivery with your institution.

The charge for invigilation services is as follows:Ìý
  • Exams of up to 3 hours: $60 per examÌý
  • Exams of up to 4 hours: $85 per examÌý
  • Exams of up to 5 hours: $110 per examÌý

On the day of your exam, you must arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time and report to the location in your confirmation of booking email.Ìý

Grades and student records

Grades are used to determine your status in your degree program, to allocate awards and other honours, and they will be considered by graduate schools, prospective employers, and others.Ìý Ìý

All academic student records are maintained by the Registrar’s Office.Ìý

There may be times when you need to provide a third party with proof of registration, graduation or the awarding of a degree.Ìý

Instructions

You can request the following letters in (login required):Ìý

  • Confirmation of EnrolmentÌý
  • Confirmation of Degree AwardedÌý
  • Confirmation of Language of InstructionÌý
  • Post-Graduate Work Permit LetterÌý
  • Custom LetterÌý

Letters are issued via the MyCredsTM Digital Credential Network, a secure platform for sharing your official credentials and documents with a third party. You will be notified by email when your letter is ready to be shared via your digital wallet.Ìý

Former students must complete theÌýRequest for a Letter of Confirmation formÌý[PDF- 362KB] and submit it to theÌýRegistrar's Office.

Processing Timeline

  • Standard Letters: 1-2 business days
  • Custom Letters: 5-7 business days

Cost

  • Standard Letter: $10.00 plus tax per share credit, paid through the ²Ñ²â°ä°ù±ð»å²õ™ portal.Ìý
  • Custom Letter: $25.00 plus tax per share credit, paid through the ²Ñ²â°ä°ù±ð»å²õ™ portal.Ìý

    Note: To access your credentials, you must purchase at least one share credit.Ìý

Transcripts

Transcripts are an official copy of a student's academic record. These credentials can be shared with third parties and are issued digitally through the network. Printed transcripts are available by special request.

Instructions

  1. Request your digital transcript through the Ìý(login required).
  2. Select the ‘digital transcript’ option.Ìý
  3. Access your ²Ñ²â°ä°ù±ð»å²õâ„¢ account via the emailed link, sent when your transcript is available.Ìý

You only need to request your transcript once through DalOnline. After your request is completed, you can share it as often as you like through ²Ñ²â°ä°ù±ð»å²õâ„¢.Ìý

  • 1-2 business daysÌý

Cost

  • $15.00 plus tax per share credit, paid through the ²Ñ²â°ä°ù±ð»å²õ™ portal.Ìý
    • Note: To access your credentials, you must purchase at least one share credit.Ìý

Alternative options

Printed transcripts are available by request via Ìý(login required). Detailed request instructions can be found in Dal Online under ‘Web for Students’ > ‘Student Records’ > ‘Request Official Transcripts’. This service is offered for $15 per transcript and is processed in 5-7 business days.Ìý

Same-day service is available at any Enrolment Services Centre for $20 per transcript.Ìý
