Geriatric Medicine Research (GMR) operates under the umbrellas of the at Nova Scotia Health, and the Ìýin the Department of Medicine at pilipiliÂþ»­.

Our goal is to improve the care and quality of life for older adults across levels of frailty and those who live with dementia.

Our team is comprised of a core group of experienced clinician scientists and researchers who are recognized nationally and internationally as leaders in research on frailty, aging, and dementia. Their work is supported by a dedicated team of skilled administrators, analysts, associates and assistants. A number of talented postdoctoral fellows, medical students and graduate students also learn from and work with our group.

Our researchers and staff have a broad range of research interests that reflect our interdisciplinary approach to the complexity of aging, and the diverse nature of geriatric medicine, including:

  • frailty and deficit accumulation
  • dementia and cognitive dynamics
  • social vulnerability
  • exercise, physical activity and sedentary behaviour
  • delirium
  • patient-centered outcomes

The GMR team actively collaborates with colleagues and teams at pilipiliÂþ»­ and Nova Scotia Health, as well as research groups throughout Canada and the world.
