Share the Road
Share the Road Nova Scotia is a community-based Share the Road awareness campaign for Nova Scotia. The goal of the campaign is to improve the public's knowledge and raise awareness of road safety by acknowledging the responsibilities user have based upon different modes of transportation - driving, wakling, and rolling!
Initiated by theÌýDalhousie Transportation Collaboratory (DalTRAC) in 2012, "Thumbs Up! Share the Road" s the product of extensive research and community consultation. DalTRAC and interested communities hosted several community engagement sessions between 2012 - 2013 (in Chester, Hubbards, New Glasgow, Pictou, Halifax Regional Municipality and Annapolis County) to generate discussion on sharing the road in both urban and rural contexts, and ideas for what a local Share the Road campaign should look like. Information from the community workshops was used to design a Share the Road awareness campaign for Nova Scotia, which can be adopted by any municipality.

Campaign Rebranding
DalTRAC's Share the Road promotional campaign was developed in early 2023 to update the approach to better align with public interest. Transportation demand and infrastructure has changed over the last 10 years.
- COVID-19 pandemic
- Population growth
- Mode shift (private vehicles, cycling, transit)
Over 70 case studies were reviewed in order to update slogans, durations, intent, approach, and targeted audience of the revamped Share the Road campaign.
