Peter Mushkat

Peter stands outdoors and looks at the camera. He has a light skin tone, white hair and a short beard.

Since Peter Mushkat graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1986, he has worked as a consultant, researcher, and lecturer in the areas of marine and environmental law. In 2012, he was appointed to the College of Sustainability where he is involved in the ESS experiential learning courses ā€“ Capstone, the engagement project, and co-op. After acting as the Collegeā€™s Interim Director for the 2020-21 academic year, Peter completed a two-year term as Director of the College from 2021 to 2023.

Peter has worked as a consultant with government, agencies, the not-for-profit and the private sectors, focusing on issues dealing with the environment and public policy.

He has taught environmental law; international environmental law; and administrative law in Dalā€™s undergraduate Environmental Science program in the Faculty of Science (2000-2017) and at the Schulich School of Law (Winter 2020). Peter also delivers an online introductory course in environmental law for Acadia University.

Peter is wearing a dark checkered shirt and holding a tiny black puppy in his hands.

For Peter, the greatest opportunity the College offers is enabling students to put into practice what they have learned from their academic courses. Peterā€™s great loves outside of sustainability are good food, gardens, music and theatre ā€“ especially opera. And Dolly, of course (not exactly as illustrated)!
