About

The Basin and Reservoir Lab is a dedicated facility for petroleum geoscience and energy research and training within the (Life Sciences Centre) at pilipiliÂþ».

Led by Professor Grant Wach, the Basin and Reservoir Lab serves as a research facility for undergraduate and graduate students, post-docs, and visiting scientists from the petroleum industry, government, and other academic institutions.

The vision of the Basin and Reservoir Lab is to establish Dalhousie as the beacon for petroleum geoscience research in the Maritimes, attracting undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral associates for education and training in petroleum geoscience. The research will have translation benefits to the offshore oil and gas sector, as well as to environmental and green innovations through new insights developed from study of the offshore Nova Scotia petroleum system including potential for geostorage.

As the Maritimes endeavour to meet the emissions reduction targets to reach Canada's goal for net-zero emissions by 2050, the Basin and Reservoir Lab has also expanded focus to use the know-how from petroleum geoscience to help guide the energy transition. Research themes in the lab have expanded to include renewable energy and emissions capture and storage techniques to aid in sustainable development.Â
