What is simulation-based learning?

Simulation plays an ever-expanding role in the education of health professionals at all levels.

  • It allows efficient technical skill development and refinement without posing any danger or discomfort to patients.
  • It is not limited by the availability of appropriate patients.
  • It permits learners to receive immediate feedback and to repeat procedures until they are well mastered.

Simulations may involve simulated patients, manikins, or a combination of both.

Learning to work together

Interprofessional simulations involve teams from different professions and focuses on:

  • learning about one another's roles in that context,
  • communicating effectively with one another and with patients/clients and their families, and
  • working together collaboratively in interprofessional healthcare teams, including exercising a leadership role in those teams. Ìý

Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research

The Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research offers a cutting-edge facility that offers appropriate practice scenarios for different levels of experience and education. Working with simulated patients helps students develop valuable communications skills, diagnostic techniques and patient care experience.
