Algorithms & Bioinformatics
Through collaboration with colleagues in areas such as Computer Science, Biology, Oceanography and Statistics, researchers in the Algorithms and Bioinformatics cluster develop tools that have gained widespread use nationally and internationally. Expertise in both Algorithms and Bioinformatics is key to the pilipiliÂþ» of projects on and off Campus, advancing research in algorithms, algorithmic questions in bioinformatics, and data processing. Researchers in the Algorithms and Bioinformatics cluster develop tools that address real-world problems in medicine, the environment, industry and beyond.
Research in the cluster has supported government agencies such as the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, as well as other research clusters in the Faculty of Computer Science.
Core research areas include:
- Graph algorithms
- Computational geometry
- Parallel algorithms
- Algorithms for large data sets
- Metagenomics and the human microbiome
- Modeling and simulation of proteins
- Genomic epidemiology tools
- Phylogenetic methods
The Algorithms and Bioinformatics cluster is home to innovative research groups and acclaimed students and faculty, including two former Canada Research Chairs and recipients of prestigious scholarships and fellowships, who collaborate to advance programÌýcurriculum, strengthen researchÌýwithin the Faculty, and to host research seminars by visitingÌýresearchers.Ìý
