Graduate Research Assistant, Indoor Agriculture
Applications are invited from a recent graduate (must have graduated from May, 2021 or after, or will be graduating in May 2022) with a minimum of Master of Science in Agriculture with a specialization in Plant Science for a ONE YEAR externally funded term position as a Research Assistant, Indoor Agriculture.
VerFa Agrifood Innovations Inc. is a new company located in Truro, Nova Scotia, which is involved in providing innovative, futuristic solutions for the agrifood sector. If you are passionate in growing plants, and excited about research, solving problems, creating a change and want to participate in contributing to a sustainable future, you are considered as a potential candidate to work in our organization.
Reporting to the Vice-President Research, Development and Innovation, the incumbent will assist in organizing labs, setting up plant growing facility, growing plants, maintaining, and managing plants, harvesting, and analyzing for various parameters of interest, conducting research, collecting data and developing reports. The incumbent will also maintain a clear record of all activities, and responsible for the inventory, lab management, procurement, and digital data archiving. The incumbent will work in an indoor environment under artificial lighting and modified environment and able to operate various analytical and physiological equipment.
Qualification:
Must be a recent graduate (completed in May 2021 or after or to be graduating by May 2022) with a minimum of Master of Science degree in Agriculture with a specialization in Plant Science and with a Bachelors in Agriculture with a specialization in Plant Science with a knowledge in indoor plant production, production of horticulture crops, plant propagation, plant physiology with skills in the areas of conducting research, collecting data, analyzing and report writing. The candidate must also have excellent communication skills, teamwork skills, computer skills (MS Suite; Minitab), and experience in use of physiological and analytical equipment. The candidate must have certification in WHMIS, OHS and possess a valid driver’s licence.
