Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences Â
Assisting in field related research activities involved in crop, soil and systems evaluation and production of agronomic and horticultural crops. Crops to be examined will range from the traditional field crops such as the small seeded cereals to new crops for this region with novel uses. Activities will include land preparation, fertilization, seed packaging, plot layout, seeding, maintenance of plots, mowing, weed and pest control, data collection, data analysis, harvesting, yield determination and record keeping. Students will be offered 18-19 weeks employment (depending on available funding).
Applicants should be enrolled in a plant related program and be returning to full-time studies in the fall. They should possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license. Both degree and technician/technology students are encouraged to apply.
Experience with farm equipment, small plot work and /or computer spreadsheet use is an asset but not required. Major requirement is willingness to work outside and eagerness to learn. Current WHMIS, First-Aid and Defensive Driving certificates are also beneficial.
