“I was very impressed with the level of traffic, the interest, professionalism, and caliber of students who came through. Our future is in good hands!” AggieWIL industry participant, 2019
Once again, employers came to the Faculty of Agriculture campus in February to interact with our students and identify potential new talent.
The Aggie Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Employment/Internship Fair was open to all students seeking employment during the summer months and post-graduation. Students participating in the RBC Agricultural Internship Program had the opportunity to network with potential employers for upcoming internships.
The event was held in the Student Learning Commons (SLC) over the course of three days (originally four but one day was snowed out).
Overall, 24 employers were committed to come and due to circumstances 22 were able to join us, which is up from 19 last year. Additionally, last year there were 261 student visits over three days and this year we had a 35 per cent increase in student participation rounding out the week with 352 student visits (a rough estimate of 259 individual students dropped by).
We were able to add some new offerings this year due to the wonderful space availability in the SLC. A few of the employers took advantage of the available interview room and were able to interview 12 of our students in conjunction with the fair. Finally, the PEI Potato Board and Agriculture Agri-food Canada were able to offer some information sessions for the students.
As this was the second year for this particular format, suggestions from a follow-up survey and increased participation will continue to drive efforts to make it even better next year!
