The flags have been lowered to half-mast in memory of custodian Tim Young who passed away Dec 31st. The flags will be raised again on Monday morning.
The Department of Facilities Management, together with the Faculty of Law and the Dalhousie Arts Centre, Fountain School of Performing Arts, and Dalhousie Art Gallery, extend deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of custodian Tim Young, who passed away suddenly December 31 surrounded by family.
“He will be truly missed by his team members,” says Tim’s supervisor Juanita Haas. “He was very well-loved and respected, easy going, never in a bad mood.”
Tim worked in the Law school from 2002 – 2010 where he made such an impact that he was awarded the Weldon Law Grad Ring by the graduating classes of both 2006 and 2008.
Here is a quote from the DalNews story about the unique event:
“When you think of how many hours are spent in this building by students, it makes a difference when it’s in such good shape,” said graduating student Katie Ives, from Antigonish.“Tim’s always working hard to make sure law students have everything they need and that everything is in its place. We really appreciate all the hard work he does,” Ms. Ives added.
Tim went on to work at the Arts Centre where he will be missed by all units, including faculty and students in the Fountain School of Performing Arts (FSPA). School director Jacqueline Warwick says, “Tim’s cheerful presence in the Arts Centre was a constant source of affirmation for all of us in FSPA. He had a gift for making each person he spoke with feel valued, and he contributed enormously to making our school into a community.”
Facilities Management’s Director of Operations Darrell Boutilier echoed the statements above, adding, “Tim was a great employee and wonderful person.”
