CARHC News

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on August 5, 2016 in News

The Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Council (CAHRC) is a national, non-profit organization focused on addressing human resource issues facing agricultural businesses across Canada. CAHRC has been leading projects that are addressing the national labour shortage in agriculture, as well as developing tools and resources the agri-business can use on farm to improve HR practices.

One example is an online, subscription based HR Toolkit for agribusiness that provides guides and templates for managing the human side of an operation. This toolkit is being used not only by employers, but also as a foundation for curriculum in various ag schools in Canada. In the spring of 2016 CARHC hosted a national labour summit in Winnipeg and launced the results from a National Labour Market Survey in Agriculture.  Members attending from the Faculty included Gillian Fraser, Tracy Kittilsen, Katherine Rutherford, and Sarah Macdonald.

CAHRC is close to wrapping up a National Agricultural Occupational Framerwork project which has involved mapping competencies across 11 ag commodities at four levels (entry level worker up to manager). These competency profiles will be further developed and templates, job descriptions, online training modules and more will be developed.

This fall, along with an updated website, CAHRC will also launch the following products:

– an online job matching tool for people interested in ag careers

-  an online directory of Ag Associations

Agrileadership -  an online leadership self-assessment tool for ag producers
