FCC Aggie Pride Event

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on March 17, 2016 in News

Farm Credit Canada (FCC) has been providing backpacks to first year Faculty of Agriculture students for the past three years.

ā€œEvery year students look forward to getting these backpacks that FCC donates, itā€™s one of the first things they need when they come to campus,ā€ said Alana Bent, incoming Dalhousie Agricultural Student Association (DASA) President.

On Wednesday, Gil Miner, District Director for FCC along with Dean Gray were on site for the FCC Aggie Pride Event.

"We are so fortunate to have such a great relationship with FCC and are able to continue to work so closely with them. They help and partner with us on various events like Drive Away Hunger. They also renovated DASA's Lounge three years ago and we are so grateful for that,ā€ Alana added.

Over 25 backpacks were given away to first year students. In order to receive a backpack, students had to post ā€œIā€™m proud to be an aggie becauseā€¦ā€ on the DASA Facebook page where they received over 25 entries.

ā€œThe backpacks and renovations are all a part of giving back to the community we live and work in. We have given away over 100 backpacks so far this year. We presented 75 at the Young Farmers Conference, 25 to Cultiv8 and 25 at todayā€™s event,ā€ said Gil.

In addition to backpacks, partnerships and renovations, FCC also support and attend the annual scholarship banquet and provides scholarships for Agriculture students.

ā€œWe want to support students studying in agriculture, they have so much optimism, drive and determination. We just want to do our part to help give back.ā€

First year student Cynthia Campbell put it best when she said ā€œIā€™m proud to be an Aggie because thereā€™s no better family than one that shares the same passion with one another ā€“ agriculture. The way we all have different agricultural backgrounds makes it fun to learn and engage with one another each and every day!ā€
