Engaging youth in St. Kitts & Nevis and Nova Scotia

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on July 31, 2015 in International News, News

The CARICOM Education for Employment 09 ā€“St. Kitts and Nevis project has been pleased to host Mr. Dujon Beckford (middle) and Mr. Monroe Tweed (right) for the past two weeks. Students at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC)ā€™s two year Agriculture Science and Technology program, Dujon and Monroe were selected to participate in the St. Kitts & Nevis Leadership and Farm Study Tour. This student mobility opportunity has offered the opportunity to work collaboratively with two Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture students, Ms. Emily Davis (left) and Ms. Amy Harrington, to design and create a social marketing campaign.

Dujon, Monroe, Amy, and Emily have spent the past two weeks designing and creating their campaign intended to engage youth in both St. Kitts & Nevis and Nova Scotia in a conversation about involvement in agriculture. The team of students has been visiting with local agricultural producers, researchers, entrepreneurs, visionaries, and policymakers in order to gather footage for their video series to be launched this fall. Taking an approach of ā€˜Rethinking Ag,ā€™ the team will seek to provide youth with an updated picture of the exciting developments in agriculture, and challenge those same youth to see themselves further leading agriculture in innovative and dynamic directions.

Work on the video series will continue in August when Amy and Emily travel to St. Kitts and Nevis where CFBC, the Caribbean partner institution, will host and facilitate a similar set of site visits to highlight dynamic and innovative agricultural initiatives on the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The C-EFE 09 project team would like to take this opportunity to thank all campus and local community members who have hosted and shared with the team of students. We encourage everyone to watch closely in the fall for the launch of the ā€˜Rethinking Agā€™ video series.

This student mobility opportunity has been made possible by the C-EFE 09 International Project, which seeks to improve the employability of youth in agriculture throughout the Caribbean through the development of a new skills-based certificate in Agri-Business Management at CFBC. The program is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) Canada and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan).
