The Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture is pleased to welcome Alan Leber from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)to campus on Tuesday February 5. He will be making a presentation on CIDA and taking questions from any interested students, faculty and staff at Ìý1:15pm in the Riverview Room.

Alan Leber:
Alan Leber has worked for CIDA for 20 years with experience in Communications Branch, Policy Branch and the Geographic Programs Branch.While in Policy Branch, he developed and was the primary pen, for CIDA's strategy for Landmine Removal in Developing Countries which was presented at the 2007 signing of the Ottawa Convention banning Ìýlandmines.Ìý In the geographic branch, Mr. Leber has worked primarily on the Asia and Middle East desks and has travelled to Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Tajikistan, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian territories, Israel and Mozambique.Ìý
Mr.Leber has also been posted to Thailand, Cambodia, Pakistanand most recently Bangladesh returning to CIDA Headquarters in September 2012.
A good part of his development work has focused in advancing democracy/good governance and promoting sustainable economic growth through the development of value chains; improving the enabling environment for economic growth and strengthening technical vocational training systems. Mr. Leber is currently the team leader for the Deployment for Democratic Development mechanism, which is a tool to supply qualified Canadian technical expertise in response to requests from local partners. Originally from Montreal, Mr. Leber has a BA from Concordia University, concentrating on political theory and a Masters in Public Administration from Carleton University.
