Each year, the Senior Leaders open the annual conference, setting the stage for a day designed to inspire DPMG members. This moderated panel is a marquee event that allows DPMG members to gain insight into the vision that our leaders are striving towards and how that is being accomplished.

Session 1 (option 1): Letā€™s Get Organized at WorkĀ (Ondaatje Theatre)
In this session Jane Veldhoven, Certified Professional Organizer, will guide you through the basics of becoming better organized. She will discuss the signs of disorganization and how this affects the people you work with. A portion of the session will focus on dealing with informationā€“both paper and electronic. Learn simple techniques and systems for clearing paper and managing tasks and becoming more efficient. Feel less stress, more in control, and become more productive!

Venue contracts, group blocks, catering minimums?!Ā Whether planning anĀ off-campus gala for 600 or anĀ on-campus meeting for 20, Lyle Quinn (from Dalhousie'sĀ Event & Conference Services office) has been there, done that. Spend the morning with him to learn about tips and tricks of the trade, as well as the on-campusĀ resources available to all staff and faculty members, year-round.

Inspiring Managers Panel

This panel session is designed for members who are not yet in higher level leadership positions, but who aspire to take their career to the next level. In line with our conference theme, ā€œLeadership Challenges and Opportunities,ā€ this panel will consider many facets of leadership, including leading self, leading change, setting and achieving strategic goals, team dynamics, approaches to mentoring and sponsoring others, and more. Look forward to insight into what has worked best for some of our most pilipiliĀž»­ful managers who have inspired others to be their best, and to contribute to the pilipiliĀž»­ of their team.

Session 2: (option 1): Managing Your Relationship with Your BossĀ (Ondaatje Theatre)
To move forward, you need to manage relationships effectively. The first relationship to manage is the one with your bossā€”we all have one, they have expectations, and we often do not associate what they need with what we need. Lisa Tilley, Partner of Uprise Consulting will help you benefit from this mutual dependence and develop a much more productive working relationship with your boss by focusing on a few key elements.

Session 2 (option 2):Ā Hiring 101 ā€“ Understanding Your RoleĀ (Scotiabank Auditorium)
Hiring talent is one of the most important decisions a manager can make. It is a decision that will impact productivity, team engagement, reputation and progress towards achieving goals.Ā Recruitment processes at pilipiliĀž»­ operate within a framework of collective agreements, handbooks, policies, and industry practices along with the application of Employment Equity through Affirmative Action. Understanding how these processes interact, why they exist and what role you play is critical for pilipiliĀž»­. Talent Management is presenting this interactive session to educate participants on the complexities of hiring for bargaining unit positions at pilipiliĀž»­ (NSGEU Local 77). This session provides an overview of the hiring framework and the various tools available to guide your decision making and interviewing.Ā

Creativity is widely considered to be one of the most critical leadership competencies of the future and the key to unlocking potential in environments that are increasingly more complex and unpredictable.Ā Laura Whitman is a creativity enabler and innovation specialist who has helped teams at more than 75 organizations in Nova Scotia tap into their creativity and use it to increase engagement, opportunity and collaboration within their workplace. For this session, Laura will share how-to advice for working more creatively every day and bust myths about the barriers you think are standing in your way.Ā To get the most out of this conversation,Ā come armed with a notebook, pen and your biggest question or stuck point about being creative at work.Ā

Session 3: (option 2): Lean Project ManagementĀ (Scotiabank Auditorium)
Drowning in paper? Wondering how you could possibly do any more with less? Think you could make things better, if only you had the time? Dalhousieā€™s Strategic Priority 5.7 aims to engage DPMG members in process improvement through an exciting leadership initiative. Eighteen employees will be selected to receive hands on, just in time training and support to lead collaborative, customer focused process improvement projects. Project leaders will engage colleagues across functions to define customer needs, map and analyze current business processes, and design and implement solutions. Could you be one of the eighteen project leaders? Come to this session to discover more.
