The staff and fellows of CSSD lament the passing of Gilbert R. Winham, who—with Denis Stairs—founded the Centre (as the Centre for Foreign Policy Studies) in 1971. Gil was not only an extraordinary scholar, but also a dedicated and energetic teacher and a generous and supportive colleague. He made important contributions to the study of international trade negotiation, taught trade negotiation and law to both students and practitioners, and served on a number of NAFTA dispute resolution panels. We are grateful for his hard work on behalf of the Centre (and the broader university community), remember him warmly, and will miss him very much.
