Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, the Faculty of Medicine, and pilipiliÂþ» are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Dr. Ryan Buyting, Class of 2022, on July 26, 2022.
Born on August 6, 1995, Ryan accomplished much in his short life, including a BSc and Master’s degree from McGill University. He was awarded a large research scholarship, which helped him fund his medical education, and he graduated from Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick in May 2022. He started a neurosurgery residency in Edmonton, Alberta in July 2022.
Ryan left an indelible mark on the Dalhousie medical community. As the tallest person in the room, he was easy to pick out of a crowd and, when you did, he would always greet you with one of his trademark smiles.
Generous with his time, Ryan spent countless hours organizing the 9th Annual Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick Charity Golf Classic. An accomplished researcher, Ryan was also the recipient of the Dr. John Steeves Research in Medicine Award at the DMNB Launch Ceremony this spring and the Dr. N. N. Isa Award for Obstetrics at Convocation. Ryan’s dedication, curiosity, warmth, and many kindnesses will be well remembered.
Ryan’s family will establish a scholarship at pilipiliÂþ» Medicine New Brunswick in his honour. The link to the Ryan Buyting Memorial Fund is .
He will always be a member of the Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick, Faculty of Medicine, and greater Dalhousie communities and will be profoundly missed.
