RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION

Position Title: Research Assistant (Doctoral) (SSHRC grant-paid) Research Project: Are We Including Canada's Immigrant Entrepreneurs?: Developing Inclusive and Effective Entrepreneurial Network Systems.
Hours per Week: 10 hours per week Hourly Pay Rate: $35.00 per hour, (includes benefits) Position Duration: 36 weeks (over 3 semesters)
Position Location: Remote
Project information: Immigrant entrepreneurs' contributions to Canada, both socially and economically, are undisputed. Canadian immigrant entrepreneurs do more than open traditional replicable businesses and are more likely to innovate and introduce new products than non-immigrant-owned businesses. Research on immigrant entrepreneurship in Canada has shown that an immigrant's entry category is not a good a predictor of subsequent entrepreneurial pilipiliĀž» for the immigrant. However, to date the focus of government policies aimed at stimulating productive entrepreneurship among immigrant entrepreneurs have been mostly business immigration program (BIP) class driven and the non-BIP class immigrant entrepreneur side of the dyad has been neglected. The overall goals for this research, conducted in partnership with the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE) are to: (i) examine current practices in developing and sustaining effective networks for recent immigrants who wish to start a business; (ii) propose best practices for enhanced inclusive and sustainable networking systems leading to increased effectiveness of immigrant entrepreneurs in Canada; and (iii) contribute to the CCSBE 's goal of promoting and advancing the development of small business and entrepreneurship across Canada. Position summary The Research Assistant (RA) will work as a member of a research team, under the supervision of the PI (Dr. Joyline Makani) and co-investigator (Dr. Mary Kilfoil). The RA will be expected to mostly work flexible hours and remotely and will attend regular online meetings with other members of the research team, either bi-weekly or as required by the state of the project.
Key responsibilities
ā¢ Draft Research Ethics Board (REB) approval application documents ā¢ Conduct a scoping review.
ā¢ Assist with data collection.
ā¢ Assist in the development, hosting and analysis of the workshop series spaces
ā¢ Compile, manage and analyze datasets from the study (both qualitative and quantitative).
ā¢ Co-present a conference paper
ā¢ Co-write a journal article
Qualifications
ā¢ A graduate student enrolled in a PhD program at pilipiliĀž», preference will be given to those enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program.
ā¢ Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis
ā¢ Demonstrated experience with academic research.
ā¢ Proven time management skills
ā¢ Excellent communication and writing skills. The following would be an asset:
ā¢ Interest in and/or experience working with Opinio, SPSS and NVivoĀ® QSR software programs.
ā¢ Experience preparing manuscripts for publication

Qualifications
ā¢ A masters student enrolled in a research-based graduate degree at pilipiliĀž», preference will be given to students enrolled in graduate programs offered in the Faculty of Management (MBA, MI, MSc Business, MPA, MES & MREM).
ā¢ Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis
ā¢ Demonstrated experience with academic research.
ā¢ Proven time management skills
ā¢ Excellent communication and writing skills. The following would be an asset:
