Work Assignment:Â The Teaching Assistant (TA) will be responsible for assisting with the technical development of the online components of the course, based on the course content prepared by the instructor. During the course delivery, the TA will assist with the management of the synchronous sessions, including development and operation of discussion activities. Throughout the course, the TA will assist with preparation of blog entries based on weekly discussion and submissions by the students. The TA will responsible for reviewing and understanding the content of the course and the instructor's expectations for the assignments, and fielding questions from students as they undertake their research on these assignments, particularly the major paper due at the end of the term.
This course will be offered entirely online and is a cross-listed course in the Schools of Information Management, Public Administration, and Resource and Environmental Studies in the Faculty of Management. The class size is expected to be between 30 to 35 graduate students. Traditionally, masters and doctoral students from five or six programs register in the course, which means a diversity of academic backgrounds and career interests. ​
The TA will be required to be available to field questions from students in a timely and professional manner and potentially meet virtually with students seeking guidance related to the assignments. As the assignments will be submitted and graded digitally through the course learning site (Brightspace), the TA will require personal access to a computer and high-speed internet.
Requirements:Â Applicants must be Dalhousie students. Applicants must have experience with use and development of digital platforms (Brightspace, MS Teams) and/or prior experience with the course and its assignments.
Experience with teaching and facilitation of student discussion is an asset. The TA must be highly proficient in written communication in the English language; experienced in working in a team; reliable; enthusiastic about the course topics; and comfortable in facilitating the learning of students while not simply providing them with the answers.
