Help Design Biā€‘Centennial Commons: A Placemaking Project

Posted by Facilities on February 27, 2018 in Facilities Management

Dalhousieā€™s Campus Master Plan (2010) calls for a re-design of the area at the top of University Avenue, adjacent to the Killam Library. The goal is to make this area a vibrant and diverse public outdoor space. The 200th anniversary in 2018 presents an opportunity to design this area so it reflects Dalhousieā€™s values heading into a third century, and supports the universityā€™s commitment to inclusivity and diversity. This part of campus, at the historic heart of Dalhousie, is symbolic. It has the potential to become a unique expression of inclusivity and a gathering place for everyone. The bicentennial year is an opportunity for the university to make visible its identity as a diverse and inclusive institution, acknowledging indigenous, colonial and post-colonial perspectives and to represent the universityā€™s past, present, and future.

Please share your thoughts , or at one of three public engagement sessions. Ā ()

The first is Thursday, February 28, 2:30-4:00 pm, Student Union Building Lobby.

The next two are:

March 14, 10:30-12 Killam Library Atrium

March 22, 11:30-1:30 Howe Hall adjacent to the meal hall.

Your input is needed to help shape a vision and guiding principles for the new outdoor space. The vision and guiding principles will inform the design.
