WORK ASSIGNMENT:
A part-time instructor is needed to teach French 1008.03 (05) for the winter term of the 2016-2017 academic year (1 January 2017-30 April 2017). This section of the course is currently scheduled to be taught on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 13:35-14:25.
The selected applicant will teach the basic components of French grammar (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) to students with no previous background in French or who have studied French up to grade 8-9. As instructor, the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation, evaluation and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.Ìý Instructors report to the Chairperson of the Department.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
At least a Master's degree in French, plus previous teaching experience. Native or near-native competence in French. There is a requirement for an interview for all candidates who have not previously been interviewed for a position at the 1000 or 1005 levels, who have never held a full time position in the department or who are not retired faculty. Any candidate has a right to be re-interviewed for each new hiring cycle but must specifically request this. In addition to a letter of application, candidates may submit any supporting document they deem relevant, such as a CV, student evaluations, etc. Interviews will be conducted face to face or, exceptionally, by telephone.

The selected applicant will teach a class involving a review of all basic components of French grammar, and a further development of all 4 language skills, with a greater emphasis on reading and writing. As instructor, the candidate will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation, evaluation and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course.
