When you're online you leave a trail of "digital exhaust" in the form of social network posts and pictures, cookies (not the edible ones), GPS data, and e-mail exchanges, among others. It is critical to learn how to protect yourself and guard your privacy. Your identity, future job opportunities, and even your bank account could be at risk.
Tips to guard your privacy:
- Take care what you share and think about the long term. When you apply for a job the employer will most likely Google your name. What goes on the Internet usually stays on the Internet!
- Use long and complex passwords or passphrases.
- Go stealth when browsing.
- When using public Wi-Fi restrict browsing to simple searches (no banking!).
- Only use apps from reputable sources.
