POSITION: Part-Time Academic, BSW DISTANCE Program
DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: School of Social Work/DISTANCE
PAY RATE: For both unionized (campus) and non-unionized (distance) positions, the pay scale will be in accordance with the CUPE 3912 Collective Agreement.
WORK ASSIGNMENT: The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching: SLWK 2111.06 “Development of Canadian Social Work and Social Welfare” Section 07 by DISTANCE Education. The class will be offered in the Fall/Winter term, from September 2015 to April, 2016. For a full course description, please refer to the Dalhousie Undergraduate Calendar.
The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including preparing and delivering lectures and preparation and grading of assignments. Distance courses are currently taught using an online learning management system (LMS) known as Blackboard; however, the School of Social Work will be piloting the new LMS, Desire 2 Learn, starting in the Fall 2015 term. Distance courses require on-line availability for consultation with students. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparations for one-two months preceding course delivery.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION: Educational background with extensive experience in social work (or related fields), is required. The incumbent must also have a demonstrated knowledge of the history of social work and social welfare along with competence in policy analysis. A Master of Social Work degree, or higher, and previous teaching experience, particularly with on-line teaching, is preferred. New and returning part-time academics must be available to attend mandatory orientation sessions and training for the new LMS - either in person or via videoconference.
