INSTRUCTOR
DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE
The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at pilipiliÂþ» invites applications for an Instructor position. This is a career stream appointment and is available starting July 1, 2015. Job candidates should have a PhD in Psychology or Neuroscience and have teaching experience at the undergraduate level, particularly in the coordination and development of psychology/neuroscience lab demonstrations and report writing. Experience with first-year students and familiarity with team-teaching are highly recommended, as is management and development of Web-based course materials.
The total course load will be the equivalent of eight (8) semester-length classes (24 credit hours). As part of this load, the Instructor, under the general direction of the department’s Undergraduate Program Coordinator, will be responsible for organization and administration of the team-taught courses, Psychology 1011.03 and Psychology 1012.03 (Introduction to Psychology and Neuroscience I and II). These fall and winter courses have enrollments of approximately one thousand students. The Instructor will also develop and oversee the lab component of the course in conjunction with teaching PSYO/NESC 3010.06 (Advanced General Psychology/Neuroscience). Students in PSYO/NESC 3010.06 tutor the lab component of PSYO1011.03/1012.03 and complete class assignments related to teaching pedogogy and science communication. Specific responsibilities associated with PSYO/NESC 1011.03 ,1012.03 and 3010.06 include responding to e-mail messages, student advising, creating and updating ! the blended learning component of PSYO1011/1012 websites on OWL (BbLearn), coordinating make up tests and evaluations and recruiting appropriate students for PSYO/NESC 3010.06.
The Instructor will also teach one other half credit course (3 credit hours), preferably in spring or summer session as determined by the needs of the Department.
The Instructor is expected to maintain a professional interest in issues related to the teaching and technical aspects associated with delivering Introductory Psychology and Neuroscience courses. Because of heavy course-related demands during the fall and winter terms, time for these activities will be available during the summer months.The Instructor is also expected to participate in administrative work in the Department, and will serve on appropriate Departmental, Faculty and University Committees.
