Since 2011, Dalhousie has been planning a new fitness centre to honour a commitment made to the student community. The 58,500 square foot facility will be located on South Street across from Wickwire Field and connected to the Dalplex.Ìý The project goal is to serve the athletic and recreational needs of the Dalhousie community with new exercise equipment and workout facilities.

The new centre will include:
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Cardio and strength training facilities
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Group fitness studios
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Customer service and equipment rental facilities
·ÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý New change rooms
These features were among the most requested in both the 2011 Campus Recreation survey and in fitness facility consultations held over the past two years.
A revised conceptual design for the new facility was presented to the Board of Governors and received approval to proceed with implementation on February 3rd. This revised concept incorporates recent changes to the proposed design, largely in response to feedback received during consultations in 2014.
The updated plans will be showcased at a public meeting next Thursday, February 26th, at the LeMarchant Place Galleria, 1246 LeMarchant Street, from 7 – 9 PM.Ìý This meeting will address community interests regarding the project plan and timeline.

An update will be provided following the public meeting next week and presentation materials will be available on the website.
