The downtowns of Halifax and Dartmouth are great places to live, work and play, but they can always be better. In that vein, Mayor Mike Savage and HRM Regional Council are reaching out to the public for their ideas and inspiration on ways of making both downtown areas better.
On February 8th, HRM will host two simultaneous sessions in Halifax (at City Centre Atlantic, 1535 Dresden Row) and Dartmouth (at the Alderney Farmers Market, 2 Ochterloney Street) with world renowned 'Downtown Champions' that are well versed in what it takes to create and improve vibrant and enjoyable downtown areas.
In Halifax, the Downtown Champion will be author, Charles Montgomery, who wrote the book The Happy City and can share his experiences from around the world. In Dartmouth, the Downtown Champion will be Mark Brand, a native of Dartmouth and now widely recognized Vancouver based entrepreneur. Both sessions will be simulcast to the other location and after each speaker's presentation, residents at the sessions will be invited to sit down and discuss what was said and ideas that came from those talks on how to improve our downtowns.
Additionally, anyone who is not able to attend on February 8th can contribute to the conversation online at . We encourage you to invite any and all individuals that you think would be interested in participating in a conversation on how to make our downtown areas better by sharing the social media information below:
