October is Canadaās Healthy Workplace Month, and pilipiliĀž» is marking the occasion with a number of events and opportunities for staff and faculty to consider what it means to be healthy at work.
āItās not just about physical health, although thatās incredibly important,ā says Janice MacInnis, Dalās coordinator of organizational health. āItās about creating an environment where individuals are supported in their mental, emotional and spiritual health as well.ā
On the , as well as the , faculty and staff can find a wide variety of resources related to individual and organizational health: from the Employee and Family Assistance Program, to Dalās Weight Watchers groups, to various university policies and programs related to the health and wellness of Dal employees.
There are also a number of Healthy Workplace events scheduled for next week. Make time to attend and consider how you and your team can be more healthy at work at Dal:

Creating a Respectful and Inclusive Community (Agricultural Campus session)
We all have a shared responsibility to establish and maintain a climate of respect in the workplace. This workshop, facilitated by Gaye Wishart and Lisa Delong, is intended to raise awareness about the importance of a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment for all. It also offers a forum for generating ideas for achieving inclusiveness, understanding and respect while acknowledging, valuing and accommodating differences.

Explore the components that come together to make a workplace extraordinary.Ā Janice MacInnis, with Organizational Health in Human Resources, will present a framework developed by The HealthWorkĀ Wellness GroupĀ and challenge you to consider how your workplace reflects the conditions that can, or do, make it extraordinary. Also at this session, the departmental winner of Dalhousie's 2013 Healthy Workplace Award will be announced and presented with their trophy.
