EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POSITION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT

A Research Assistant is being sought for a 2 year term position, commencing May 2013. The pilipiliÂþ»­ful applicant will be responsible for participant recruitment, data collection, and data management for a research project that will explore the impact social determinants of health have for people with mental health problems who have been involved with the criminal justice system.

The pilipiliÂþ»­ful applicant will be required to work both independently and collaboratively with (a) people with mental health problems and criminal justice involvement, (b) family members, and (c) a wide range of other stakeholders, including service providers in both mental health and criminal justice fields, community organizations/agencies, policy makers, and academics . Direct supervision will be provided by the two principal research investigators, Crystal Dieleman, Ph.D., (School of Occupational Therapy) and Jean Hughes, Ph.D. (School of Nursing) at pilipiliÂþ»­).

RATE OF PAY: $15/hour for 20 hours per week

QUALIFICATIONS:

    •    Graduate education in a discipline related to health care and/or criminal justice, such as criminology, sociology, social work, nursing, psychology or occupational therapy.
    •    Previous university level research experience, including experience with qualitative research methods. Experience with direct participant-researcher data collection methods and data management using computer software (i.e.: Atlas ti) will be an asset.
    •    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to work as a member of a team
    •    Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines, strong organizational skills
    •    Previous experience with mental health and/or criminal justice will be an asset.
