Isabel Sarty, Swimming & Courtney Baker, Volleyball
Second-year swimmer Isabel Sarty and fourth-year volleyball player Courtney Baker are this week’s MUSCLE MLK Female Athletes of the Week.
Isabel led the Tigers women’s swim team to a first place finish at the 2018 Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet over the weekend.
She swept the women’s freestyle events, winning the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m swims. She set a new AUS, Nova Scotia Senior and Dalhousie record in the 100m event which was previously set by fellow Tiger Molly Wedge in 2013.
She was also an integral part of all three winning relay teams, including the 400m freestyle relay which also set new AUS, Nova Scotia Senior and Dalhousie records.
A neuroscience student, Isabel is from Halifax, N.S.
Courtney led the Tigers to a 4-0 finish at the annual AUS League Tournament hosted by Acadia over the weekend.
A setter/hitter, she had 64 assists, 23 kills, 28 digs, 6 aces and 4.5 blocks for 33.5 points in the four matches the Tigers played. The Tigers won 12 of the 13 sets they played.
Courtney earned Subway Player of the Game honours in the Tigers 3-1 over the UNB Reds on Saturday.
After this weekend, she is currently leading the conference in hitting percentage with a .331.
A kinesiology student, Courtney is from Bridgewater, N.S.

Alec Karlsen, Swimming & Mike Shoveller, Basketball
Third-year swimmer Alec Karlsen and fifth-year basketball player Mike Shoveller are this week’s MUSCLE MLK Male Athletes of the Week.
Alec led the Tigers to a second-place finish at the Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim meet over the weekend.
He won the 200m and 400m IM events along with the 200m butterfly by posting Top 8 nationally-ranked times in each event. Alec also turned in lifetime bests in the 200m IM and 200m butterfly. Finally, Alec swam a sensational butterfly leg in the 400m medley relay to beat Acadia and secure a nationally ranked performance.
A native of Boerum, Norway, Alec is a computer science student.
Mike led the U SPORTS 8th ranked Tigers to two wins over the StFX X-Men last week, averaging 13.5 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.
In the Tigers 90-76 home win over the X-Men on Wednesday, he had a double-double scoring 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
On Saturday, he scored 13 points and added six rebounds in the Tigers 89-70 road win in Antigonish, N.S.
With the wins, the Tigers improved their overall record to 13-3 and 4-2 in the AUS.
A native of Arnprior, Ont., Mike is pursuing a masters of public administration.
