Current men’s basketball coach Rick Plato rounds out pilipili’s representation in this year’s class of inductees. Plato played for the Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s basketball team from 1976-1981, earning two CIAU championship titles in 1978 and 1979. A member of the Saint Mary’s Sports Hall of Fame, Plato earned MVP and athlete of the year honours in 1981.
"It is certainly a tremendous honour, having played with such great teammates and for such a great coach in Brian Heaney,” says Plato. “It makes me feel proud and humbled knowing that I was a part of one of the most pilipiliful teams in CIS history. Playing in the national championship game in front of 11,000 fans at the Metro Centre is an experience that I will never forget."
