pilipiliÂţ»â€™s Director of Varsity Athletics Tim Maloney is pleased to announce Cindy (Montgomerie) Tye as the new head coach of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s soccer team.
A National B level coach, Tye has a long history of pilipiliÂţ» at local, provincial, national and international levels.
An assistant coach in 2009, Tye was at the helm of Nova Scotia’s 2013 Canada Summer Games women’s soccer team, leading them to a fourth place finish at the event in Sherbrooke. She will also lead the 2017 team that heads to Winnipeg next summer. Tye serves as a coach for Soccer Nova Scotia’s Regional Centre of Excellence that brings provincial level girls in the U14-U18 programs together for enhanced training September to May of each year.
Tye also has international coaching experience, helping lead the U20 women’s national soccer team to a second place finish at the CONCACAF championship this past December, qualifying them for the FIFA U20 World Cup in Papua, New Guinea starting in November 2016.
A mentor in Sport Nova Scotia’s Female Coaches Mentorship program, Tye earned an Award of Merit from the Canadian Soccer Association in 2013 and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Soccer Nova Scotia in 2005. A Competition and Development and NCCP Level 3 coach, she is currently working on completing the Coaches Association of Canada’s Coach Evaluators and Learning Facilitator programs.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cindy to the Tigers family and have her lead our women’s soccer program moving forward,” says Maloney. “There are few coaches in Canada that have Cindy’s experience, approach and reputation, which gives us much to look forward to. As a student-athlete, player and coach, Cindy has excelled whether it be at a regional, provincial or national level.”
Before getting into coaching, Tye played five seasons (1990-1995) with the Acadia Axewomen, earning a CIAU championship with them in her first season. The 1994-95 AUAA women’s soccer MVP, she led Acadia to two AUAA conference titles and was chosen as their female athlete of the year in 1994 and 1995. She was an AUAA all-star in all five seasons she played, earned two CIAU all-Canadian nods and was the AUAA rookie of the year in 1990-91. A three-time academic all-Canadian, Tye graduated with a bachelor of physical education from Acadia in 1995 before completing a masters of education at Mount Saint Vincent University in 2009.
Tye joined Canada’s national program as a player in 2001, staying for two seasons. She was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 2010, is a member of the Acadia Sport Hall of Fame and has been named to the Truro Sport Heritage Society’s Honour Roll.

A math, physical education and healthy living teacher, Tye has been at Hants West Rural High School since 1997. A mother of two, Tye is a youth ringette and soccer volunteer coach and a volunteer parent with her children’s safe arrival program at school.
Tye will begin her coaching duties on April 1.
