Women’s Basketball
The Tigers are off to a 2-0 start as they swept an opening weekend series with the UPEI Panthers at the Dalplex. Courtney Thompson led all scorers averaging 21.5 points per game over the weekend, posting 16 and 27 points, respectively.
On Friday, the Tigers held a lead as big as 21 but UPEI made a late charge in the fourth quarter, limiting the Tigers to just eight points in the final frame. Their lead proved to be insurmountable however, and they walked away with a 54-47 win.
On Saturday, the Tigers held a 19-10 lead after the first quarter and they never looked back. Tied at 55 going into the last quarter, the Tigers pulled away as they limited the Panthers offense to just eight points, cruising to a 73-63 victory.
They’ll hit the court again next weekend when they travel to St. John’s to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks. You can catch both games live on www.austv.ca.
Men’s Basketball
The Tigers lost a thriller of an opening game against the UPEI Panthers in overtime on Friday. The new-look Tigers roster that features eight new players, played strong team ball from the opening tip, but they were met with an equally strong effort from Tim Kendrick’s Panthers squad. Sean Dodds hit a huge three with 11 seconds left to tie the game at 82 and send it into overtime, but in the end it was the Panthers who came out on top, walking away with a 95-88 victory. Kashrell Lawrence led all scorers with a game-high 31 points.
On Saturday, Jarred Reid had four threes in the first quarter and scored a game-high 31 points off the bench to lead the Tigers to a 93-84 victory. Lawrence had another strong game for the Tigers, posting 20 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
They’ll tip off against the Memorial Sea-Hawks next weekend in a two-game set in St. John’s. You can catch both games live on .
Women’s Cross Country
The Tigers walked away from the CIS championship this weekend with an eighth place finish overall. Leading the way for the Tigers were Emily Clarke, Ellen Chappell, Britany MacArthur, and Emily Ferguson who finished in 33rd, 43rd, 44th, and 47th, respectively. Colleen Wilson finished inside the top 100 with an 83rd place finish.
Men’s Cross Country
The Tigers finished just outside the top ten at the CIS championship this weekend at Memorial University. Matt McNeil led all Tigers with an impressive 12th place finish. The first runner from the AUS to cross the line, McNeil was named a second team all-Canadian. Rounding out the placing for the Tigers were Nick Wood, Matthias Mueller, Angus MacIntosh, Will Russell, and Graeme Wach who finished 44th, 63rd, 91st, 92nd, and 100th, respectively.
Women’s Hockey
The Tigers had a tough weekend as they went 0-2 to drop below .500 on the season. On Saturday they faced the University of Moncton and couldn’t overcome a 2-0 deficit, losing 3-1. Victoria MacIntosh had the lone goal for the Tigers as she converted on the power play midway through the second period.
On Sunday, the Tigers were tied 2-2 going into the third period against St. Thomas, but the Tommies scored with just four minutes left to seal the deal. Sarah Robichaud had a goal and assist in the loss for the Tigers and was named one of the game’s three stars. Jessica Severyens had 33 saves in the loss for the Tigers.
Men’s Hockey
Steve Johnston had the lone goal for the Tigers in a 5-1 loss to the StFX X-Men on Friday as the Tigers dropped to 2-8 on the year. Wendell Vye had 26 saves in the loss for the Tigers, who will face-off against the St. Thomas Tommies at the Halifax Forum on Friday, November 14th. Puck drop is at 7:00pm.
Women’s Volleyball
The women’s volleyball team kicked off the regular season with a 3-0 victory over the Acadia Axewomen in Wolfville. Second-year hitter Anna Dunn-Suen paced the Tigers with 10 kills and 13 digs. Middle player Jessica Josenhans added six kills and 6.5 blocks, while Marisa Mota and Julie Thiesen added 17 and 16 digs each, respectively.
The Tigers host Saint Mary’s Saturday night in their home opener at 6pm at Dalplex. The first 30 Dal students through the door get a free Tigers t-shirt!
