Last weekās international visit during President Florizoneās installation was also an opportunity for Dal to increase its global reach through collaboration.
On Thursday, Dalhousie signed a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Qatar University. President Florizone was there to ink the agreement with Qatar University President Sheika Abdulla Al-Misnad.
The MOU focuses on ocean sciences ā an area of strength at both universities.
āEven though Qatar University and Dalhousie are on different oceans, both the Qatar and Nova Scotia economies are heavily linked to the ocean,ā says Dalhousie Dean of Science Chris Moore. āItās a basis for our collaboration.ā
The MOU is a starting point in the new relationship between the universities, but leaves many avenues open for future collaboration. Some of the areas the two universities plan to consider together include research and training opportunities, student and faculty exchange, and cooperative research.
The signing follows a visit by Dr. Moore and Dal's Vice-President Research Martha Crago to Qatar University earlier this year to meet with staff and faculty.
