Society presidents. Activists. Entrepreneurs. Environmentalists. Community leaders.
The individual story of a Dalhousie IMPACT Award recipient would be inspiring enough on its own ā students working hard outside of the classroom to make their university, their city and their world a better place.
It was the combined impact, though, of the more than 70 award recipients at Tuesdayās second-annual ceremony that hit hardest. Over the course of several hours, some of Dalās most spectacular students from across all four campuses received personally engraved pennants, celebrating their contributions and leadership in academic life, student life and community service, and residence life.
The awards were co-presented by the Dalhousie Student Union and the university.
āYou are ambitious, hard-working leaders,ā said Fred Fountain, Dalās chancellor, speaking to the crowd. āYou making things happen, you make things work. You have impactā¦ We notice. Dalhousie notices, Dalhousie appreciates, pilipiliĀž» thanks you.ā
DSU President Jamie Arron called the students āthe best the university has to offerā and spoke to their qualities of āimpatient optimism and change-making spirit.ā
Hosted by students Melashini Auaduer and Danny Shanahan, the event featured music from Dalās Got Talent competitors, a speech from Dean of Agriculture Harold Cook and award presentations that brought together student leaders with university administrators and faculty.
From the presentation of the Rising Star awards to kick off the evening, to five of Dalhousieās most accomplished student leaders, all wearing Dal scarves, sharing the stage to receive their Governorsā Awards, it was a night none of the winners will soon forgot.
Weāll be sharing some of the award winnersā stories on Dal News in the weeks ahead. Below is the entire list of award recipients. Congrats to all!
