This past weekend was the busiest yet for the Tigers, with nine of Dal’s fourteen teams competing.

Women’s Soccer
MtA 0 @ DAL 2

Controlling the pace of the game, the Tigers peppered the opposing keeper with shots throughout the match. Mount Allison proved resilient however, and it wasn’t until the final twenty minutes that Dal was able to put two in the back of the net. After their eighth win in a row, the women’s soccer team has clinched second seed in the 2012 post-season and a bye into the 3pm semifinal on Saturday hosted by Cape Breton University.

Men’s Soccer
MtA 0 @ DAL 1

A physical match between the Tigers and the Mounties was a must-win for both teams that saw the black and gold come out on top. Applying offensive pressure throughout the match, Dal created chance after chance only to have the MtA goalie deny them satisfaction. That all changed in the 82nd minute with an unassisted goal by James Nearing to give the Tigers the victory and secure a playoff spot in this weekend’s AUS Championship hosted by UPEI. The Tigers will square off against Université de Moncton in quarter-final action on Friday at 3pm.

Men’s Basketball
Guelph 73 @ DAL 79; Calgary 83 @ DAL 75

Over the weekend the Tigers hosted the Gryphons and Dinos in exhibition matches at Dalplex. The men played hard in two close games that saw them just a few points ahead of Guelph and a few more shy of a victory over Calgary. Looking to find their rhythm before the season starts the men have travelled to New York this week for scrimmages against Ryder University and The College of New Jersey to help gain valuable on-court experience before the regular season begins.

Women’s Volleyball
Sherbrooke 1 @ DAL 3; Montreal 3 @ DAL 1; McGill 1 @ DAL 3; Laval 3 @ DAL 2

Teams from across the Maritimes and Quebec travelled to Halifax this past weekend for the AUS-RSEQ Interlock tournament. The Tigers were the strongest of AUS teams, finishing 2-2 to start their regular season. With rallies that went on for days and spirited play from both sides the Tigers were particularly exceptional against Laval, but came up just short in the fifth set after playing their hearts out in their final match.

DAL 2 @ Montreal 3; DAL 3 @ Sherbrooke 0; DAL 1 @ Laval 3

It was up to the men to travel to Montreal for their chance to participate in the AUS-RSEQ Interlock tournament. Having gone 1-2 against the RSEQ teams, the young Tigers team will have a number of regular season games including their home opener Nov. 9 before they see a rematch with the Quebec squads at the end of the month.

2012 Subway AUS Cross Country Championship

Dalhousie was proud to host this year’s AUS cross country championship at Point Pleasant Park on a sunny afternoon last Saturday. The event was a pilipiliÂþ» with the Tigers running hard and leaving everything on the trails. Both the women’s and men’s teams placed second overall, while individually athletes Holly Van Gestel and Matt McNeli each placed second in their respective races.

Women’s Hockey
DAL 1 @ UPEI 2 (OT); DAL 2 @ MtA 1(OT)

Two games ending in overtime this past weekend saw the Tigers finish 1-1 on the road. With all of their goals coming late in the game, Dal’s defence kept them competitive in both matches. The OT winner on Saturday was buried in the back of the net by fifth-year forward Sarah McVey, moving their record to 2-3-1.

Men’s Hockey
UPEI 0 @ DAL 3; UNB 4 @ DAL 2

On Friday night the Tigers earned themselves a healthy 3-0 victory over the Panthers with goalies Bobby Nadeau and Wendell Vye working together to complete the shutout. Saturday’s game was a close match tied 2-2 after the second period. During the third however the Varsity Reds managed to put up two points and UNB came out on top 4-2.
