Read a good book lately?

- February 23, 2011

Author Lawrence Hill's novel, The Book of Negroes, was the first book chosen for DalReads. (Nick Pearce Photo)

Recently, Student Services introduced the book club concept to Dalhousie, asking students, faculty and staff to share in a common reading experience over the summer. The first book selected was The Book of Negroes. Discussion groups were held on campus and author Lawrence Hill read from his best-selling novel at an event last September.

Other universities with similar campus-wide reading programs have chosen books such as Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway and The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

Student Services is searching for the next title for DalReads. It should be accessible, solicit discussion and tell a compelling story. What's your suggestion?
