The Board of Governors has approved the appointment of Carolyn Watters as Dalhousie’s new Vice-President Academic and Provost. This appointment takes effect immediately and her term will run to June 30, 2015.
A professor of computer science, Dr. Watters is well known at pilipiliÂþ», having served for many years as Associate Dean and then Dean of Graduate Studies. Since the departure of Alan Shaver, the former VP Academic and Provost, she has served as Acting Vice-President since August 2010. (Dr. Shaver is now the president and vice-chancellor of Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C.)
Dr. Watters is an experienced, creative academic leader and has a long record as an active scholar in computer science. Her national experience as the leader of the Canadian Association of Graduate Studies and her service on numerous granting council bodies have also provided her with a national perspective on the issues facing Canadian higher education.
