Need an injection of heat this spring? Check out the Dalhousie Art Gallery’s Wednesday film series featuring the films of Spain’s Pedro Almodóvar.
Law of Desire (1987) started off the series last Wednesday. The narrative follows three main characters: a gay film director who embarks on a new project; his sister, an actress who used to be his brother (Carmen Maura), and a repressed murderously obsessive stalker (Antonio Banderas).
Next up is the Spanish director’s international breakthrough: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988) on March 31. Followed by Talk to Her (2002) on April 7 and Bad Education (2004) on April 14. The film series concludes on April 21 with a screening of Volver (2006). Penelope Cruz delivers a powerhouse performance as a mother coping with past trauma while trying to protect her daughter from the same fate.
Screenings take place Wednesdays, 8 p.m. in the Dalhousie Art Gallery. Admission is free.
