Dalhousieā€™s Faculty of Dentistry got a stellar check-up from the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada.

All of the facultyā€™s programsā€”the Doctorate of Dental Surgery, Diploma in Dental Hygiene, the qualifying program, the graduate program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Pediatric Dental General Residency Programā€”were approved during the rigorous accreditation process that takes two years to complete and happens every seven years.

The on-site visit, for example, takes a full week. And the results arenā€™t formally known until months later. ā€œItā€™s the full meal deal,ā€ says Thomas Boran, Dean of Dentistry.

ā€œI am very proud of my faculty,ā€ he says. Getting accreditation approval ā€œis a real team effort and it was a real pleasure to share this news with them.ā€

As well as hosting the accreditation team, the faculty played host to observers from the United States, Hong Kong and Australia at the same time. ā€œIt was a very exciting process to showcase our faculty, not only to the accreditation body, but also to the world,ā€ he adds.Ā
