Conference in Copenhagen

- December 9, 2009

The United Nations' climate change conference is now underway in Copenhagen. It's the international policy event that has  been called our "date with destiny," and "history's judgement on this generation."

The goal of the conference is to establish a global greenhouse gas reduction strategy. How ambitious these targets will be, and how to finance the means to achieve them, are some of the key issues delegates from 192 countries will grapple with over the next two weeks.

Going into the conference, the federal Tories say they won't sign any deal in Copenhagen to replace the Kyoto Protocol unless developing countries also adopt tough targets. The government also says Canada must tie its policy to that of the U.S. because of the countries' extensive economic relationship.

What do you think of the position of the Canadian delegation? What are your expectations for Copenhagen?
