Instead of stretching out the Dalhousie fundraising effort over a month or two, the university is concentrating its fundraising efforts into a two-week “blitz.” The hope is to achieve its goal of raising $200,000 by October 19.
“We wanted to try something a bit different this year, really focus our efforts,” says Kim Thomson, who serves as co-chair for the Dalhousie United Way steering committee. “Our hope is that the extra push will inspire the Dal community to show its renowned generosity in greater numbers than ever before.”
Campaign proceeds go to the United Way of Halifax, which supports 55 agencies in HRM and other community initiatives that engage residents in the support of safe, vibrant and healthy neighbourhoods.
Back by popular demand—last year’s contest, which was a hit with campaign donors. All Dalhousie faculty and staff who donate within the blitz period from October 5-19 are eligible to win a reserved outdoor parking spot or a year’s worth of bus passes. Other prizes include lunch for four at the University Club and a three-month family membership at Dalplex.
Also this year is a better system for online donation. Previously, faculty and staff were only able to donate online by clicking a unique link sent to them by e-mail; if they misplaced the e-mail, donating became a hassle. This time, the donation website can be accessed anytime at For those who still prefer the old fashioned way, paper forms can be acquired from your area coordinator.
