Hearts were possessed, sounds were settled and souls met bodies as acclaimed Seattle band Death Cab for Cutie rocked a capacity crowd of contest winners in the McInnis Room last Friday.
“Sorry we took so long to get here,” said frontman Ben Gibbard, apologizing to the crowd for having not played Halifax previously. “We got lost along the way!”
The band tore through a 20-song set filled with hits, fan favourites and new songs from the band’s latest release, The Open Door EP. Highlights included Gibbard’s solo take on I Will Follow You Into the Dark, which opened the show, and the encore-ending, ear-shattering rendition of Transatlanticism that left the walls rattling long after the room had emptied.
Dalhousie was awarded the concert for winning the Campus Battle '09 contest, presented by Rogers in partnership with Live Nation. Dal received more votes relative to its student population than any other participating university in Canada.
