Christmas came early for two members of the Dalhousie community who won the United Way contest this year.

Anita Regan (Faculty of Architecture and Planning) won the grand prize, choosing a year's worth of bus passes instead of the reserved parking spot. Angela Mitchell (Faculty of Health Professions) was also a winner; she received a year's membership in the University Club.

"I was so surprised!" said Ms. Regan about her win, which will make transportation in '09 much easier. "When I first heard about this contest and found out the winner could choose bus passes, I thought 'now there's something I can use!' But I still never dreamed I'd win."

Ms. Regan, who is a visual media librarian, gives to the United Way every year. "What I like about the United Way is they support programs with specific outcomes, whether it's training or education... it's a great way to give to the community."

"We would like to congratulate Anita and Angela, and thank everyone who donated to the United Way this year," said United Way Committee Co-Chair Susan Mansour.

"It's still not too late to donate," she adds. "We are at 83 per cent of our goal and every dollar counts. So, if you haven't given yet and would like to make a donation, there is still time."

As for Ms. Regan, she will get a lot of use out of her prize. "I take the bus every day... I'm kind of an environmental freak," she laughs.
