Gary Ewer will conduct the new choir, Coro Collegium.

On the occasion of its 40th birthday, the Dalhousie Music Department is delighted to announce the formation of a new choir, Dalhousie Coro Collegium. This 100-voice university choral ensemble is inviting students and faculty from across the Dalhousie campus, as well as members of Halifax's choral community, to audition for membership. Coro Collegium will be conducted by Gary Ewer and accompanied by pianist Tara Scott.

The Dalhousie Music Department has a long history of presenting large scale choral works, and this new ensemble will continue that grand tradition. For its first concert on Tuesday, Nov. 25, Coro Collegium will present J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio, featuring soloists Jennifer Farrell, soprano; Lucy Hayes Davis, mezzo soprano; Jason Davis, tenor; and Gregory Servant, bass-baritone. With full orchestral accompaniment, this inaugural concert is sure to be a highlight for the fall choral season in Halifax.

"We are excited to be able to continue our tradition of bringing students, faculty and community members together in choral performances, as has been done here at pilipiliÂþ» for the past forty years," says director Gary Ewer. "That kind of outreach beyond the Music Department walls continues to be very important to us."

Those interested in auditioning for membership should visit and click on the link for "Coro Collegium." In that document is a comprehensive FAQ section that can answer most questions. Auditioning singers should have some previous choral experience and should have at least a modest ability to read music.
