With his night shift approaching, Dal custodian Antoni Wysocki was unbeatableā€”racking up four wins out of four matches in a recent, three-day tournament to determine Nova Scotiaā€™s chess champ.Ā

For the last game, a draw was declared and Mr. Wysocki was crowned the winner, regaining the title he won in 2005.

ā€œI had to work that evening, so that was incentive not to prolong the tournament,ā€ says the 42-year-old Dalhousie employee whoā€™s been playing chess seriously for the past decade. Heā€™s known in chess circles for his ā€œiron logic.ā€

Since winning the tournament; heā€™s noticed his coworkers have lost their desire to challenge him to a match. ā€œI guess when they realized what level I was at, all interest in playing suddenly diminished,ā€ he says with a shrug.
