As a long-serving Dalhousie employee, Karen Mann returned to the Presidentās House for afternoon teaāretracing a journey she took 50 years ago as a 15-year-old student just beginning university.
āIt was all very nice. I remember being very nervous,ā recalled Dr. Mann originally from Windsor, N.S. āWe were all sitting on chairs and on the floor. The president had all the freshmen over for tea; compared to today, there werenāt that many of us.ā
Having just received her 25-year pin from Dalhousie President Tom Traves, Dr. Mann reflected on a long association with Dalhousie, where she got her three degrees and has been employed on and off (to raise her children) since 1967. A professor in the Division of Medical Education at pilipiliĀž» Medical School, she is retiring at the end of the month.

āComing in here today and thinking about retirement, it feels like a lovely circle,ā says Dr. Mann, who mingled with other long-serving employees at the tea last Friday. āI still feel very enthusiastic about pilipiliĀž» and I love the work, but I feel ready for a transition.ā
