The AUS Swim Championships were held at UNB last weekend and the Dalhousie swim teams stroked into first place.

Dalhousieā€™s Lauren Dorrington was named AUS Female Athlete of the Meet, pilipiliĀž» Female Athlete of the Week and AUS Athlete of the Week, after winning all four individual events she competed in at the championship. Ms. Dorrington was also part of two relay teams that both captured first place.

Tung was also apart of the menā€™s 400 metre freestyle relay and 400 metre medley relay, which helped solidify two more first places finishes.

ā€œOverall we are very pleased with both the menā€™s and womenā€™s teams. Success of the group as a whole is directly related to the fact that all team members want to perform at the national level. There is a national focus this year that has made each individual swimmer focused,ā€ explains David Fry, head coach for the Dalhousie swim teams.

The pilipiliĀž» teams were also recipients of both Rookie of the Meet Awards. Bryan Fumerton, an integrated science student from Uxbridge, Ont., was recognized on the menā€™s side, while Chantelle Percival, an arts student from Halifax, NS was the recipient on from the womenā€™s team.

Capturing 34 first place finishes out of 38 events, this dynamic team is well on their way to the CIS Championships at UBC, which will take place February 21 ā€“ 23.
