Never again

- November 6, 2006

Founded and run entirely by students and considered the cornerstone of Holocaust education in the Atlantic provinces, Holocaust Education Week takes place beween October 30 and November 9th. The Week is hosted collaboratively by the Jewish Student Association, the King's Holocaust Education Society, the Atlantic Jewish Council, and the Halifax branch of Students Helping Others Understand Tolerance (SHOUT). It features a diverse array of events all with the common goal of promoting awareness and remembrance, dialogue and tolerance, and ensuring that the maxim "Never Again" gets put into place.

There will be ample opportunity for students and community members to participate in this important educational experience, with events offered on campus and in the community-at-large, culminating in the Annual Kristallnacht Memorial at Province House Yard.

Program organizers Mordecai Walfish and Michelle Masters hope that Holocaust Education Week will "provide our generation with an avenue through which to engage with Holocaust remembrance in a meaningful and accessible way, with events pertaining to art, stories, theology, film, and perhaps most importantly, survivor testimony." They add that the week should serve as an educational tool for the community of Halifax to use in keeping a constant dialogue about our past, present, and future alive.
